 There was a resources driven rally on the Australian share market to end to the week. That’s because iron ore prices have now recovered around 15% in the past fortnight. And crude oil prices are at their highest level this year. So the Australian share market was led higher by mining and energy stocks. The All Ords added 1.5% as did the ASX 200 index. Shares in oil and gas producer LNG jumped 15%. Fortescue added 6% and the market heavy weights BHP Billiton, Santos and Rio Tinto gained 2.5% each. Across Asia, the Nikkei in Japan is snapping its three-day winning streak1. Markets in China are also retreating. And the Australian dollar is currently buying 77.76 US cents.

 
Energy Company MetgasCo has won the quarter battle to have a suspension of its gas drilling project in northern New South Wales overturned. The Supreme2 Court ruled the state government acted outside its powers in suspending Metgasco’s license3 to drill for gas at its Rosella site near Lismore. Metgasco license was initially4 suspended after opposition5 from the local community. Its shares jumped nearly 47% on the news.
 
Germany’s biggest bank Deutsche Bank is the latest global financial giant to be fined for rigging a key interest rate known as the Libor. The record 2.5 billion US dollar fine from US and British regulators is less than the Deutsche Bank makes in a year.
