Premier7 Joan Kirner who has died after a long battle with cancer. She was seventy-six. Ms. Kirner was a teacher before entering politics and became Premier in 1990. Australia’s first female Prime Minister Julie Gillard has described Ms. Kirner as an inspiration and a
mentor8.
And in South Africa an American tourist has been mauled to death by a lion at a game park on the
outskirts9 of Johannesburg. The lion jumped through the open window of a car carrying two people. A woman died from her injuries. A man is seriously injured in hospital.
