The Three Gorges1 Dam has started increasing its discharge capacity ahead of the upcoming flood season.
Since last week, the dam has lowered its discharge capacity 3 times. That helped reduce water levels on the Yangtze River for the rescue and salvage2 teams working downstream on the capsized Eastern Star cruise ship.
With the ship now righted, lifted and re-located to safer waters, the Three Gorges Dam has again increased its output. Reservoir levels are down to 152 meters but that is still too high for the reservoir to handle the upcoming flood season.
The water level is expected to continue dropping in the coming days.
