Nearly 1,200 people aboard the British ocean liner including 128 Americans are killed. In Washington, Secretary of State John Foster Dollas, for shadows American’s long and costly6 involvement in Vietnam during the next two decades. 1840Composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, whose ballets include “Swan Lake”, “Sleepy Beauty” and “The Nutcracker”, is born in Russia. And 1941Big Band leader Glenn Miller7 and his orchestra record the swing era hit “Chattanooga Choo Choo”.
