校园里流传着这样一种说法：大一的女生是青苹果，好看不好吃；大二的女生是红苹果，好看又好吃；大三的女生是香蕉，好吃不好看；大四的女生是西红柿，还以为自己是水果呢！ 哎，大四就已经老了，不是水果了。其实是玩笑啦。不过英语中说女人“不再年轻，老了”确实有个类似的说法，那就是“no spring chicken”（不是童子鸡）。 Spring chicken指的是刚孵出来没多久的小鸡，最初的说法是“now past a chicken”（不再是小鸡了），大约19世纪的时候演变成了现在的说法“no spring chicken”。不过要注意的是，这种说法专门用于女人。要是用它来说男人老了、不年轻了，可就让人笑掉大牙喽。 看下面例句：
Grandma can't run and play ball the way she used to. She's no spring chicken.
奶奶不能像以前那样跑步和打球了。她老了。
