It's set in 1984, 85 in the depth of the miner strike, so at least part of its narrative1 concerns a depressed2, oppressed industrial community. Then there's the unlikely sometimes comic juxtaposition3 of the support offered to the miners by another group of activists4, a group of lesbians and gay men from London.
