In the course of this conflict between militants1 in Gaza and the Israeli defence forces, the international chorus of criticism has been getting ever louder at the fast rising number of civilian2 Palestinians killed and injured. The US government has not been among those speaking out most loudly. But then on Wednesday, at least 15 people were killed at a UN-run school in Gaza, being used as a refuge. And it seems the tone in Washington changed.
