Ralph Kabisch had moved to West Berlin shortly1 after the wall went up. And it was there that he met a man who is still his friend today, Joachim Neumann. Joachim had used a fake2 passport to escape from East Germany. His girlfriend had stayed behind, but she now wanted to try and join him.
