In places, the Great Wall of China is so dilapidated that estimates of its total length vary from nine thousand to 21 thousand kilometres. One Chinese farmer Yang Yongfu decided¹ to do something about it. And where the Great Wall bordered his own farmland began restoring it. After years of backbreaking work, he turned his section of the wall into a tourist attraction. But that put him on a collision course with the authorities.

中国的长城有部分区段实在破败不堪，以致于对其总长度的各种估算相差极大，从9000公里到21,000公里不等。一位中国农民杨永福决定要为此做点什么。就在长城与他庄稼地的交界处，他开始了修复工作。经过多年艰苦辛劳的努力，他把自己那一段的长城变成了一处旅游胜地。但这却令他处于官方机构的冲突对立面。
