Mona: You know, you should tell our aunt to pack you a better lunch. You can't live off potato chips and chocolate milk.

 

Lisa: Yes I can. That's what pirates² eat.

Mona: Why do you like pirate¹?

Lisa: My dad took me on a real pirate ship when I was really, really little. Can I live with you when my mom dies?

Mona: My apartment is small.

Lisa: I'm not that big.

Mona: You can't, because it wouldn't be fair to the other students. I mean, I could help you with your math homework. And it just wouldn't be fair.

Lisa: Makes sense.

 

Mona: I really like your hair.

Mom: You can't catch cancer.

Mona: Lisa asked me to bring her here today.

Mom: Yeah, she doesn't like my sister very much. But she likes you.

Mona: I like her too. Her dad got her into pirates, she said.

Mom: No. Lisa never knew her father.

Mona: Well. I thought..

Mom: Would you look in on Lisa from time to time?

Mona: Of course.

 

Lisa: I got nine stitches³.Mona: I got 27.

Lisa: 9 times 3 equals 27.

Mona: You are correct. What're you doing? I'm doing what you do. I used to imitate⁴ you at lunch. The bench makes the same sound as your desk. Why do you do it?

Mona: Why..um..I do it when I feel..alone.

Lisa: Then that's why I do it. I want to be like you.

Mona: Don't do that. Don't be like me.

Lisa: But I'm alone, I'm all alone.
