ACT 1    We form a single person.

        

 (Carmen以她的视角讲述了四个女生一起经历过的酸甜苦辣，其中一段经历就是参加Bridget母亲的葬礼)

Carmen: [旁白]There were somethings we would never make sense of (明白,理解).

Carmen: [旁白] And we were there for those, too.

 

Priest: And as we mourn [mɔrn] (v. 哀悼)  the loss of this beloved(adj. 被喜爱的) wife, mother, and friend, it only makes her choice that much more unfathomable [ʌn'fæðəməbl](adj. 难以理解的). What measure [meas·ure] (n. 程度) of despair [de·spair](n. 绝望) compels [com·pel] (v. 迫使) one to commit [com·mit] such an act(这样的行为)? We can only take comfort in the fact that (令人欣慰的是,)she is in a better place now than she found here among us.

 

Carmen: [旁白] We were there for the things that we couldn’t face alone.

 

Bridget: Hey.

 

Carmen: Hey, Bee. Are you okay?

 

Bridget: [强打起精神]Yeah, I will be as soon as I get out of these stupid heels. Here, hold them for me, will you? Think I’ll run home.

 

[B脱下高跟鞋，一路跑步回家]

 

Carmen: [旁白]Or, the ones we didn’t want to face at all. Together, as if we formed one single, complete person. Wild, unstoppable (adj. 从不消停的)Bridget. Shy and beautiful Lena. Tibby, the rebel [reb·el](n. 叛逆者). And me, Carmen, the writer. We were sixteen and had never been apart. And all that was about to change. (好景不长)
