Wildfires are driving thousands of Californians from their homes. A fire north of Sacramento forced about 4,000 to evacuate1. More than 3,000 others have evacuated2 from flames near Santa Barbara.

Health care reform is expected to be the big topic, as Congress returns from its July 4th recess3 Monday. At least two Republican Senators say the latest GOP health care reform plan is probably dead on arrival.

Iraqi military commanders say they believe hundreds of Islamic State fighters are holed up in a narrow area of Mosul and using entire families as human shields. The Iraqi soldiers are trying to clear out the remaining militants4.

And Venezuela has marked 100 days of anti-government protests. Demonstrators are angry about President Nicolas Maduro's plan to have the country's constitution rewritten, saying he's trying to make himself a dictator.
