During his speech to the France Institute of International Relations this Friday, Yang Jiechi argues the Chinese economy is the key to the stability and growth of the world economy.

"Such positive energy comes from China's enormous contribution to the world economy. Even a growth rate of 6.9 percent still places the Chinese economy at the forefront of major economies. China will be contributing 30 percent to global economic growth up to 2020."

The latest stats show China's gross domestic product expanded 6.7 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, which is largely in line with expectations.

While lauding1 the growth still being achieved in China, Yang Jiechi is also quick to downplay concerns Europe may have over China's economic clout2 in the world.

"We are committed to a path of peaceful development. We strive to develop ourselves by upholding world peace and better safeguard world peace by building up our own strength. We are committed to win-win cooperation. China advocates a new type of international relationship centered on win-win cooperation."

As part of his speech in Paris, Yang Jiechi says China's relationship with Europe is one of the government's top priorities in its foreign diplomacy3.

In making the suggestion, the State Councillor says the two sides should be working more closely on global affairs.

"China and Europe should deepen cooperation in upholding world peace, improving economic governance, sustainable development, cyber security and anti-corruption. On a particular note, we should strengthen coordination4 and cooperation on this year's G20 summit in Hangzhou to ensure a success and play a positive role in promoting global growth."

Yang Jiechi is in France to take part in bilateral5 meeting between the Chinese and French governments.

As part of this session, the two sides have agreed to increase bilateral connection, as well as work toward helping6 one-another on areas of regional and international concern.

Yang Jiechi has co-hosted the sessions along side the lead Diplomatic Advisor7 to French President Francois Hollande.
