Chinese president Xi Jinping has issued a new call to increase the combat-readiness of this country's troops.

Xi Jinping, who is also the Chair of the Central Military Commission, also says greater civil-military integration1 is needed.

The ministry3 of Public Security has issued a response to the death of a police officer in Shanghai this week, vowing4 to "crack down" on anyone who violates the orders of police officers.

A police officer in Shanghai died this week after trying to stop a vehicle which had made an illegal left-turn at an intersection5.

Instead of stopping, the suspect stepped on the gas, dragging the police officer for around 10-meters before he let go.

The 32-year old officer later died of head injuries.
