Reliably republican Alabama has elected democrat1 Doug Jones to be its new US senator. He won a narrow victory over republican Roy Moore, who is refusing to concede.

The Bangladeshi immigrant accused of setting off an explosion near New York's Times Square, is due to appear in federal court Wednsday. A prosecutor2 says Akayed Ullah made it clear, he was on a mission for the Islamic State group.

And a female manatee3 has been released back into the waters off Florida, after months of rehabilitation4. The manatee, named Naboo, needed medical treatment after a boat hit her.
