Leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations say they welcome the "positive developments" in ASEAN-China relations.They made the statement following the 20th China-ASEAN leaders' meeting in the Philippine capital Manila.China proposed at the session to upgrade the cooperation between China and the ASEAN.Also the two sides have agreed to start consultations¹ on text of the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea.The ASEAN-China dialogue relationship was established in 1991 and elevated to a strategic partnership² in 2003.Established in 1967, ASEAN, which groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
