The special election in Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district went into Wednesday morning too close to call. But democrat1 Conor Lamb declared victory. He holds a very narrow lead over republican Rick Saccone with some absentee ballots2 left uncounted.

Stephen Hawkins has died at the age of 76. He was the best-known theoretical physicist3 of his time despite being afflicted4 with ALS which left him debilitated5 for decades.

Thousands of students across the US are expected to walk out of classes Wednesday to demonstrate against gun violence. The protests come one month after the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

And the third big northeast snow storm of the past two weeks has left some towns buried beneath two feet of snow. Meteorologists say strong winds, and blowing snow made the storm a blizzard6 in Boston and other parts of New England.
