An amputee is someone who has had all or part of an arm or a leg amputated.

Here is an example:

Three American amputee war veterans have climbed to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

三名截肢的美国战场老兵登上了坦桑尼亚境内的乞力马扎罗山。

今天我们要讲的是一个被截肢的女孩儿的故事。

The girl's name is Gabi Shull. She is living in the United States.

When Gabi Shull was only nine years old, she had to have part of her leg amputated(截肢) due to osteosarcoma（骨肉瘤）, a type of bone cancer that affected¹ her knee.

这个9岁的小女孩，因为骨癌不得不做截肢手术。

The cancer was found when Gabi had an x-ray after injuring herself ice-skating. 最后她不得不放弃自己的腿，保住自己的生命。她是一个爱跳舞的女孩。

此刻人们都认为这个爱笑爱跳的女孩从此不能再跳舞了。但Gabi用实际行动告诉所有人：“你们错了”

The little girl had a revolutionary form of surgery called rotationplasty.

这个手术给了Gabi一条假肢。这个假肢可以旋转180度，这让Gabi可以继续跳舞。

And that's exactly what Gabi is doing! She takes pointe, hip-hop, tap, jazz, contemporary and lyrical，dance classes, and she also dances competitively.

虽然被截肢失去了一条腿，但Gabi的舞蹈生涯还在继续。

这场病痛也让她更加坚强。

She is also a national spokesperson for a children's cancer awareness² organization called The Truth 365. 

病痛能够击垮一个人，也能够让一个人更加坚强。

So, work hard for what you want because it won't come to you without a fight. You have to be strong and courageous³ and know that you can do anything you put your mind to.

If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive.

就像这个女孩Gabi一样。Could this girl be any more awesome⁴? I think not.
