2018年CRI China Russian film festival opens in Beijing

A film festival jointly1 hosted by China and Russia has kicked off in Beijing, scheduled to screen seven Russian films in Beijing and Wuhan, until July 28.

Lapin Pavel, an official in charge of cultural exchanges with the Russian Embassy in China, spoke2 in fluent Chinese at the festival's opening ceremony.

"All seven films mirror how Russian citizens live their lives via various perspectives, helping3 Chinese people better understand Russia. During this festival, Russia is about to sign a memorandum4 with the China Film Group Corporation to deepen film cooperation."

The opening film was "Salyut 7," a 2017 historical drama based on actual events in 1985 related to a space mission of the former Soviet5 Union.

Another film to be shown is "Thawed6 Carp," which tells the story about a mother's love and was awarded one of the best screenplays at the first Shanghai Cooperation Organization film festival in June.
