A huge, wet crowd spent a rainy new year's eve in New York's Times Square. People paid ten dollars each for plastic ponchos3 as they watched the famous ball drop.

NASA's New Horizons spacecraft was set to fly by a distant, icy object called Ultima Thule early new year's day. Scientists hope that new high resolution pictures of the object are on the way back to Earth.
