With his sling² in his hand, he went down to meet the giant. 他手上拿着弹弓，便走下山去与巨人会面。

"Who is this boy coming to fight me with a stick? roared³ the giant when he saw the brave boy walking toward⁴ him. "I shall soon kill him!" 这个拿着棍子要与我决斗的男孩是谁？看到这个勇敢的男孩向他走来，巨人大叫道，我马上就杀了他！

You have sword and spear and shield⁵, answered David. 你有长矛利剑，你有大盾防身，大卫答道，

"But God will help me to win this battle and to save King Saul's people." 但上帝会帮我赢得这场战争，拯救扫罗王的人民。

As he said these words, he ran forward and shot one of the stones from his sling. 说着，他冲向前去，用他的弹弓射出了一颗石子。

So good was the young boy's aim that the stone struck the giant upon the forehead, and he fell dead. 男孩射得很准，石子正中巨人的前额，他倒下来死了。

Then a great shout went up from King Saul's soldiers, and they rushed down into the valley. 扫罗王的士兵一阵欢呼，大喊着冲下了山谷。

But the enemy ran still faster, for they dared not stay when their giant was dead. 但是敌人跑得更快，因为他们的巨人死了以后，他们不敢再待下去了。

David is the greatest soldier in all the world! cried the people, joyfully⁶. 大卫是全世界最伟大的战士！人们高兴地大叫着。

In later years David became king, Although he fought many battles, it is not for these that he is remembered. 后来，大卫成了国王，尽管他打过很多仗，但他并不是因为这些战役而为人们所铭记的。

It is for the beautiful songs he wrote. 他写了许多优美的歌谣，而这才是他流芳百世的原因。

For hundreds of years people all over the world have read these songs and sung them. 几百年来，全世界的人们都曾经诵读并吟唱过他写的歌谣。

In times of sorrow they bring cheer, in times of gladness they help people to tell their joy. 伤心时，它们会带来欢乐；快乐时，它们帮助人们表达愉悦。

Through all the years, people have found pleasure in these songs, which we call the "Songs of David." 古往今来，在这些歌谣中，人们找到了欢乐，我们把他所写的歌谣称为《大卫诗篇》。
