Maestro David Stern is in China once again for his Baroque opera show "Serse", which is being performed here for the first time tonight.

And Stern explains the feature of Baroque music.

"So the talking is the story, and the singing is the emotion. And in Baroque music, you always have important contrasts. So in an aria¹, the singer will start talking about love and then the second part will talk about sadness. It's like Baroque architecture: everything is really well-placed so that you can see the difference between a strong affection, a strong emotion, a weak emotion, sadness, anger and everything is very clearly lined up."

According to Stern, their show is for the commemoration of the German-English Baroque composer George Frideric Handel during the ongoing² Beijing Music Festival.

大卫·斯特恩大师为了表演他的巴洛克风格歌剧《赛尔斯》再次来到中国，这部歌剧今晚第一次在中国演出。

斯特恩解释了巴洛克式音乐的特点。

“所以，人物对话展示了故事情节，歌唱部分体现了感情。在巴洛克式音乐中，你总能感到强烈的对比。因此，在咏叹调中，歌手首先开始谈论爱情，然后第二部分将谈论悲伤。就像巴洛克式的建筑：一切都布置得很好，因此你可以体会到热烈的爱、强烈的感情、微弱的情感、悲伤、愤怒之间的区别，并且所有事物都清晰地排列在一起。”

据斯特恩说，他们的演出在北京音乐节上演，以纪念德译英巴洛克作曲家乔治·弗里德里希·汉德尔。
