(单词翻译)
As many as 30 Chinese professors, many of whom specialize in social sciences and government policies, say their visas to the United States have been canceled or put on administrative1 review in the past year, according to a report by The New York Times.
Under President Donald Trump2, the US seems to get overly sensitive to the rise of China. In addition to Chinese scholars’ visa cancellation3, Chinese graduate students in sensitive research fields have also seen their visas restricted.
In the four decades since China and the United States normalized relations, Washington has generally welcomed Chinese scholars and researchers to America. Now, that door appears to be closing.
Why is the US getting so nervous about the Chinese academics? What impact will it have on bilateral4 relations? Are the foundations of goodwill5 still there?
