Some researchers believe early ongoing¹ stress can smolder², harming young brains and bodies. Triggers include poverty, neglect and parents' substance abuse, which is only getting worse in the opioid addiction³ crisis. Studies now suggest toxic⁴ stress can lead to major causes of death and disease in adulthood⁵.
