President Bush is issuing yet another appeal to Palestinian and Israeli leaders to bring violence to a halt. Mr. Bush is urging 1)restraint at a time when tensions are escalating¹ on a daily basis.

President Bush says the Middle East has become "a 2)cauldron of violence." And he says the 3)bloodshed must come to an end.

During a visit to a park in the state of Colorado, Mr. Bush again called on Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to clamp down on suicide bombers². At the same time, he said the Israelis must show restraint.

The president spoke³ in response to a question about the nighttime Israeli military raid on the Palestinian-ruled city of Jenin in the West Bank. The Israeli army said the operation was in response to a series of bombings by Palestinian militants⁴.
