　　A cock and bull story，公鸡和公牛的故事？非也，非也。它的意思是“荒诞的故事、无稽之谈、无伤大雅的谎言”。

　　1620年左右，这个短语第一次出现。据说当时英国有一家公路旅馆，店名就叫做Cock and Bull，疲倦的旅行者在这儿过夜休息，他们经常聚在一起侃大山，讲他们所经历的一些奇闻逸事。后来，这些故事就被称之为cock and bull tales。

　　有时候也可以用a cock to donkey story来表示“荒诞的故事、无稽之谈”。
