第18单元 脏话

 

A young couple got married and left on their honeymoon¹. Back at home for a few days, the bride called her mother."Well, how was the honeymoon?"asked the mother.

 

一对小情人婚后去度蜜月。回家几天后，新娘打电话给她妈妈。“还好吗?蜜月旅行怎么样啊?”妈妈问道。

 

"Oh, Mama,"she replied,"The honeymoon was wonderful! So romantic..."

 

“啊，妈妈，”她回答：“蜜月很棒!好浪漫...”

 

Suddenly she burst out crying."But, mama, as soon as we returned, Sam started using the most horrible language. He's been saying I've never heard before! All these awful four-letter words! You've got to come get me and take me home! Please, Mama!"

 

突然间她哭了出来：“可是，妈妈，我们回来后，山姆就开始讲些很讨人厌的话。他一直说些我以前没听过的话!全部都是脏话，听了真不舒服!你一定要来接我回去!拜托啦，妈妈!”

 

"Sarah, sarah,"her mother said."Calm down! Tell me, what could be so awful? What four-letter words!"

 

“莎拉，莎拉，”她妈妈说：“冷静一下，告诉我，什么话那么难听?他到底都讲了些什么脏话?”

 

"Please don't let me tell you, Mama,"wept the daughter, "I'm so embarrassed!They're just too awful! You've got to come get me and take me home! Please, Mama!"

 

“不要逼我讲啦，妈妈，”女儿哭着说：“我好难为情哦!那些话实在太不中听了!你一定要来接我回去!拜托了，妈妈!”

 

"Darling, baby, you must tell me what has you so upset. Tell your mother those horrlble four-letter words!"

 

“心肝宝贝，你一定要告诉我什么事惹你不开心。乖，告诉妈妈到底是什么脏话!”

 

Still sobbing², the bride replied,"Oh, Mama...Words like dust, wash, iron, and cook..."

 

新娘一边啜泣一边回答道：“啊!妈妈...好比去打扫、去洗衣、去熨衣、去煮饭...”
