The first cold front of 2014 is sweeping1 across Northwest China, bringing snow and plunging2 temperatures.
Some cities in Northern Xinjiang have seen temperatures drop by more than 20 degrees Celsius3, to hover4 around 23 degrees below zero. The cold front is also expected to extend to east and south China.
Many cities in the provinces of Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Hebei are expected to get their first major snowfall of the year. Shandong, Henan and Hubei provinces can expect sleet5 as temperatures there will drop by at least 6 degrees Celsius.
Beijing is also experiencing its coldest temperatures of the winter as night-time lows will decline to about minus ten.
