Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, has promised to take steps to end the violence prevailing1 in the country, and to ensure the safety of the life and property of citizens.
Hasina says her ministers would take oath Saturday, and her government would end the culture of violence in the country. Her Awami League won more than two-thirds of the seats in Sunday’s parliamentary election. But the polls were shunned2 by international observers as flawed. The opposition3 derided4 the vote as a farce5, and boycotted6 it.
Half of the seats were uncontested. More than 100 people were killed in clashes ahead of the election, and violence especially in rural districts has continued. The opposition has renewed calls for nationwide strikes.
