defensive4 tools, being a plant eater during the Cretaceous is not easy.
These guys had to be able to deal with living in a world with sophisticated meat eaters.
There were raptors hunting you. There were Tyrannosaurs hunting you. And there was death from the sky.
Death in the form of Quetzalcoatlus, a 180 kilogram, flying carnivorous
reptile5, or the raptor Deinonychus—fast and
lethal6. It has a top speed of 60 kilometers an hour and claws that can slice through even the toughest hide.
But there’s one meat eater who tops them all.
Tyrannosaurus Rex is the most
awesome7 creature that has ever lived in the history of the planet.
The powerful
jaws8 of Tyrannosaurus Rex can bite down with 3 tons of force—twice the power of a saltwater crocodile. But the herbivores T-Rex hunts are
worthy9 adversaries10, and they fight back.
If there’s an animal whose
scent11 would frighten a T-Rex, it’s Triceratops.
It represents what happens when you evolve something that can stand up to the power of Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Triceratops is the most dangerous
