　　教授的愿望

　　A graduate student, a post-doc, and a professor were walking on campus and they found an antique oil lamp. They rubbed it and a genie¹ came out in a puff² of smoke.

　　一个研究生、一个博士后和一个教授在校园里走时发现了一只古老的油灯。他们摩擦油灯，一个精灵随之着一股烟雾钻了出来。

　　The genie said, "I usually only grant three wishes, so I'll give each of you just one."

　　精灵说：“我一般只让人许三个愿，所以你们一个可以有一个愿望。”

　　"Me first! Me first!" said the graduate student. "I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat with a gorgeous woman."

　　“我先来！我先来！”研究生抢着说，“我要去巴哈马，和一个漂亮的女人在海上驾着快艇游弋。”

　　Poof! He's gone.

　　噗的一下，他去了。

　　"Me next! Me next!" said the post-doc. "I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with a professional hula dancer on one side and a Mai Tai on the other."

　　“到我了！到我了！”博士后接着说，“我要去夏威夷，在海滩上闲散着，要有一个专业的草裙舞演员在一旁为我表演，手边还要有一杯迈泰酒。”

　　Poof! He's gone.

　　噗的一下，他也去了。

　　"You're next," the genie said to the professor.

　　“轮到你了，”精灵对教授说。

　　The professor smiled and said, "I want those guys back in the lab after lunch."

　　教授笑着说：“我要那两个人午饭后回到实验室。”

　　1. come out

　　出现；出来；

　　eg. Bats come out only at night.

　　蝙蝠只在晚上出来活动。

　　eg. That magazine comes out once a month.

　　2. a puff of

　　（吹出的）一缕，一股；

　　eg. Wind caught the sudden puff of dust and blew it inland.

　　风猛地刮起一阵灰尘，将它吹往内陆。

　　eg. There was a puff of steam from the engine before it stopped.

　　机车喷出一股蒸气后就停了下来。

　　3. grant

　　v. 授予；给予；

　　eg. France has agreed to grant him political asylum³.

　　法国已经同意给予他政治避难。

　　eg. Permission was granted a few weeks ago.

　　几周前已获得了许可。

　　eg. Visa exemption⁴ does not grant the right to work.

　　豁免签证并不授予工作的权利。
