Weare much beholden to you for your help.(不能说verybeholden)我们非常感激你给我们的帮助。
(4)Hefelt quite sure of the appointment.
  (5)I'mmuch afraid of snakes.
它们可以和much或very much连用。例如:
(1)Thetwo brothers are very much alike.
  (2)Heis very much alive.
  (1)Thefinancial situation seems to be much/verymuch improved.(不能说veryimproved)财政状况似乎有很大好转。
(2)Britain'strade position has been much/verymuch weakened by inflation.
(3)Tedwas most surprised when he heard the news.
  (1)avery frightened animal
  (2)avery complicated problem
(1)Wewere all very shocked by the news about Tony.
(2)Iam very pleased to hear it.
Thetheory sounds quite convincing. 又如:不能说veryscreaming(尖声喊叫的),children必须使用像这样的词continually or loudlyscreaming children;singingbirds也不可说成very singing birds等等。very只可能和已转用为形容词的现在分词连用,例如:veryinteresting(很有趣),veryexciting(非常令人兴奋)等。
(1)Hisname is well up in the list.
  (2)Hewas treated quite fairly.
  动词也不和very连用,要用其他副词,如much/very much和 quite等修饰。例如:
  (1)Ishould much like to come.
(2)Theyclosely resemble each other in appearance.
(3)Bydoing so you will greatly oblige us.
(4)Heis well grounded in the English language.
