 July 28th, 1914Start of World War I as Austria –Hungary declares war on Serbia and the rest of Europe’s major powers soon join the fighting. War breaks out a month after a Serb nationalist assassinates1 Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Sarajevo, in what’s now Bosnia, Herzegovina.

1929 Former first lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis is born in Southampton, New York. Her years in the Whitehouse which she later dubbed6 Camelot ended in tragedy when her husband President John F. Kennedy was assassinated7 in Dallas.
