1882, James Joyce, the Irish author whose works include Ulysses and Finnegan’s Wake, is born in Dublin.
1996, “I am singing in the rain, just singing in the rain.” Gene6 Kelly,  dancer, actor and choreographer7 of “Singin’ in the Rain” theme, dies in Beverly Hills, California. He was 83. And 1979, punk rock musician Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols,  dies of a drug overdose in New York. He was 21.
