Gyllenhaal has already starred in the blockbuster The Day After Tomorrow in 2004. But you will be more familiar with his film Brokeback Mountain. The film directed by Taiwan born director Ang Lee received rather complicated reactions for the theme homosexuality. But it won Gyllenhaal a nomination¹ for Best Supporting Actor for the Academy Award.

 

Actually, for his father is a film director and his mother a film producer, Gyllenhaal had regular exposure to filmmaking. In fact he made his acting² debut³ in the 1991 comedy City Slickers. Thought he got some chances in other films, his father seriously expressed that the son should go to university.

 

Then Gyllenhaal went to study eastern religions and philosophy in University of Columbia. But just until then did he realize his passion for acting. Gyllenhaal dropped out after two years to concentrate more on acting. Then after several films, including The Day After Tomorrow, Gyllenhaal landed safely on Hollywood.

 

However, instead of indulging in success, he embarked⁴ on challenging roles with depth and social impacts. Then we are able to see his excellent performance in 2010 film Prince of Persia:The Sands of Time. He once remarked "It's a sad time when actors are politicians and politicians are actors." From here we can see his other side of being politically active.

 

Well let‘s back to the film .The setting is a train speeding toward Chicago. Sean starred by Gyllenhaa woke up to find he was no more Sean but Captain Stevens, a military officer sent on a most unusual and critical mission into the mind of another person.
