In Beijing, Chinese army troops stormed Tiananmen Square to crush a pro-democracy movement. Hundreds, possibly thousands are killed in the crackdown, damaging Communist China’s reputation in the west.

A turning point during the World War Ⅱ in the Pacific as the battle of Midway began. That’s where the U. S. navy defeats the Japanese fleets nearly 6 months after Pearl Harbor.

In Detroit, auto¹ pioneer Henry Ford² makes a successful predawn test run of his first horseless carriage, called a “quadra-cycle”. 

 

June 4, 1783

In France it’s up and up away, for the Montgolfier  brother as they publicly demonstrate their hot air balloon for the first time. With no passengers on board, the balloon stays aloft for about 10 minutes, landing about a mile and half away from where it took off.

 

June 4, 1984

Singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen releases his "Born in the USA" album, producing 7 hits single.
