China and India are stepping up engagement in trade and investment, despite an historical border dispute.

This follows President Xi Jinping's meeting in New Delhi with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chinese President Xi Jinping says China will open a new route via the Himalayan Nathu La Pass for Indian pilgrims traveling to Tibet.

He is currently in New Delhi on a state visit.

The Nathu La Pass sits more-than 45-hundred meters above sea level. Indian Buddhist2 followers3 make pilgrimages to Tibet every year using this pass.

While addressing the Indian Council of World Affairs, President Xi says China has decided4 to add the new route for Indian pilgrims to facilitate their trip and further promote exchanges between the two countries.
