"One cold, bleak night, the snow fell fast, and the wind blew loud and shrill.  “一个寒冷而萧瑟的夜晚， 雪下得很大， 大风呼啸而过。

It was quite dark. Not a star was to be seen in the sky. "These good men sent out a dog,  外面一片漆黑， 天空连一颗星星都看不到。” “这些善良的人们把一条狗放了出去，

to hunt for those who might want help. In an hour or two, the dog was heard coming back. "On looking out, they saw him with a boy on his back.  用来寻找可能需要帮助的人。 一两个小时后，这条狗就会回来。” “向外望的时候，他们看到它的背上有一个男孩。

The poor child was stiff with cold. He could but just hold on to the dog's back. "He had lain for a long time in the snow,  这个可怜的孩子被冻僵了， 他只能趴在狗背上，动弹不得。” “他已经在雪里躺了很长时间，

and was too weak to walk. "He felt something pull him by the coat, and heard the bark of a dog.  虚弱得无法走路。” “他感觉到有东西在拉他的大衣， 还听到了狗的叫声。

He put out his hand, and felt the dog. The dog gave him another pull. "This gave the poor boy some hope,  他伸出手，摸了摸这只狗。 狗又拉了拉他。” “这一拉给这个可怜的男孩带来了一些希望。

and he took hold of the dog. He drew himself out of the snow, but he could not stand or walk.  他抓住了狗， 把自己从雪堆里拉了出来。 但他已经不能走路，甚至站不起来了。”

"He got on the dog's back, and put his arms round the dog's neck, and held on. He felt sure that the dog did not mean to do him any harm.  “他趴在了狗背上， 用胳膊围在狗脖子上抓住它。 他肯定这只狗不会对他造成任何伤害。”

"Thus he rode all the way to the good men's house. "They took care of him, till the snow was gone. Then they sent him to his home."  “他趴了一路，终于到达了善良人们的家。” “他们一直照顾他，直到雪停， 然后把他送回了家。”
