WBR: Abenomics and Chinese property 24 Jun 14

Tue, 24 Jun 14

We look at the contrasting economic fortunes of Japan and China. The Japanese government has revealed more measures designed to lift the economy out of its decades-long period of stagnation1. But will the arrows of Abenomics hit their marks? The BBC's Mark Whittaker is in the Japanese seaside resort of Kamakura to hear how people there are feeling. Meanwhile, our reporter Rob Young looks at falling property prices in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou and talks to the Wall Street Journal's Esther Fung about the possibility of a market crash. So, is China repeating the mistakes Japan made two decades ago? Roger Bootle of Capital Economics2 is on hand to explain the differences between Japan then and China now.
