(单词翻译)

Republican Governor Bobby Jindal argues the federal Department of Education is coercing1 states to adopt Common Core.

The lawsuit2 filed this morning says the more than four billion dollar grant program forces states down a path toward a national curriculum, in violation3 of state sovereignty.

Common Core standards in math and English serve as benchmarks, describing what students should know after completing each grade.

More than 40 states have adopted the standards, including Louisiana.

Jindal, in 2010 saying the standards better prepare students for college and career. He has since reversed course.
