On this date 10 years ago, Apple CEO Steve Jobs stood on a stage in California1, wearing the jeans and black turtleneck look he’d become known2 for and made an announcement that would change the way many of us communicate.

(Jobs) “Today, Apple is going to re-invent the phone.”

Jobs said the iPhone was three pieces of technology in one and featured an iPod, a phone, and what he called an “internet communicator”:

(Jobs) “The iPod in 2001 changed everything about music, and we’re gonna do it again with the iPhone in 2007.”

Apple celebrated3 the sale of the billionth iPhone last summer.
