North Korea has rejected an offer by the South Korean President Lee Myung-bak to resume the reconciliation¹ talks he suspended in February. The North's state newspaper said Mr. Lee was trying to avoid his personal responsibility for the country's strained relations. Mr. Lee was criticized in the South for offering to restart the talks just hours after a South Korean tourist was shot dead by a North Korean soldier on Friday.

Britain says it will push the European Union to impose tough new sanctions on the Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and other top officials of his government.The British minister for Africa Mark Malloch-Brown said Britain would keep up the pressure on Zimbabwean government despite failing to get the United Nations Security Council to impose sanctions.
