There was a small boy living on a farm, he needed to get up before sunrise every morning to start his chores and out again later to do the evening ones.

During sunrise he would take a break and climb up on the fence1. So in the distance he could see the house with golden2 windows. He thought, how great it would be to live there! And his mind would wander to imagine the modern equipment and appliances3 that might exist in the house. He then promised to himself, “ some day I will go there and see this wonderful place.”

Then，one morning his father told him to stay at home and his fater would do the chores. Knowing that this was the chance, he packed the sandwich and headed acrossed the fields towards the house with the golden windows.
后来有一天，他的爸爸要自己去做家务，让他在家里歇着。他知道这是不可多得的机会，就赶紧装上了几块三明治，穿过了片片田野，向着有金色窗户的房子走去。
As the afternoon went on, he begin to realize how he misjudged the distance and something else was very wrong. As he approached the house, he saw no golden windows but instead a place in bad need of painting surrounded by a broked-down fence.
日头渐渐过午了，他才开始意识到越来越不对劲儿，自己原来低估了这段距离。当他最终走近这所房子的时候，根本看不到什么金色的窗子。而是一个油漆剥落，篱笆残损的地方。
He went to the tattered4 screen door and knocked. A small boy very close to his age opened the door. He asked him if he had seen the house with the golden windows. The boy said, “sure, I know!” And invited him to sit on the porch5. As he sat there, he looked back from where he just came, where the sunset6 turned the windows on his home to gold.
他走上前去敲了敲那扇破败的房门。一个和他年龄相仿的小男孩打开了门。他问那个男孩是否知道关于金色窗子的事情。男孩说，“当然，我知道！”于是男孩邀请他一起在门廊上坐下。当他坐在那里时，向着他走来的路看去，在那里他家的窗户被夕阳的余晖染成了金色。
