 Australia's Defence Force is facing a shortage of doctors, and this is affecting its overseas missions. An ABC online investigation1 has found that low morale2 is forcing many medical personnel out of the military. A reservist doctor says medical professionals are badly treated and poorly paid. The Australian Defence Force denies the charge, but it admits it's looking to recruit 200 health professionals.

 
A massive explosion has rocked Pakistan's biggest city Karachi, killing3 20 people and injuring at least 100. Militants4 have tried to storm an anti-terrorist headquarters, exchanging gunfire with police. Thousands of passengers stranded11 on that cruise ship drifting off the Mexico coast have arrived back on dry land. The Carnival12 Splendor13 has docked in San Diego. The ship had lost power after a fire and had to be towed back to shore.
 
And film producer Dino De Laurentiis has died in Los Angeles. He was 91. De Laurentiis produced more than 500 films in his career, including Serpico which starred Al Pacino in '73,(1973) Flash Gordon and Dune14. He was nominated for an Oscar 38 times and he won for La Strada in 1956.
