 Sometimes after a long hard day, all you want is a bacon cheeseburger, a pile fries and may be a dessert donut. After all, the stress that seems to be eating you up can be eased by what you eat up, right? Sadly, it is time to burst the bubble in your comfort food milkshake. 

 
Researchers asked women about things that had recently stressed them out. The women were then given a fat in calorie packed meal of eggs, turkey sausage and biscuits in gravy1. The researchers then measure the women's metabolism2, blood sugar, cholesterol3, insulin and stress hormones4. Turns out that most stressed women had higher levels of insulin, which slows down metabolism and causes the body to store fat, and that fat, if not burned off, accumulates in the body. The women who had reported feeling stressed or depressed5 in the day before eating the meal, burned a hundred and four fewer calories during the seven days following the meal than women who felt more mellow6. The study is in the journal Biological Psychiatry7.
 
If eating high calorie comfort foods will alleviate8 stress becomes a big tool, the result could be in average weight gain of eleven pounds per year, which bring us own stress-less spending money on new clothes.
