　　Mark and Thomas,recent college graduates,run into each other at a pub and decide to shoot a round of pool. They soon launch into a conversation about their "ideal" future life partners.

　　马克和托马斯刚大学毕业不久，一天，两人在一家酒馆相遇，于是一起去打台球。很快地，他们聊起了各自“理想”的另一半。

　　A:Thomas sinks a ball. Nice shot. So how're things going with Melissa?

　　A：托马斯击球入袋，好球。那你和梅丽莎怎么样了？

　　B:We just broke up yesterday. How about you and Michelle?

　　B：我们昨天刚分手。你和米歇尔呢？

　　A:Not going too well... I think we're gonna break up tonight.

　　A：不大顺利……我想我们今天晚上会分手吧。

　　B:Man, how come it's so damn hard to find "the one"? You don't think we're too picky, do you?

　　B：老兄，找个“真命天女”怎么该死的这么难呢？你也觉得我们不算太挑剔，对吧？

　　A:Personally, I don't think my standards are unreasonably¹ high.

　　A：就个人而言，我觉得我的标准也没有那么高不可搴啊。

　　B:So what kind of girl are you looking for?

　　B：那么你想找什么样的女生呢？

　　A:One of Michelle's problems is that she talks away too much, so I wanna find a girl who knows when to keep her mouth shut. And who can converse² with me on a variety of topics—news,sports,entertainment, and so on. And who doesn't require a lot of care and attention. Oh, and who never asks for anything...And—

　　A：米歇尔的一大问题就在于话太多，所以我想找一个知道什么时候该保持缄默的女生。而且她还要能够跟我天南海北地聊——聊新闻，聊体育，聊娱乐，等等等等。而且她也无需我投入很多的关爱和注意。噢.她还不能向我提出任何要求……还有——

　　B:Hmm... I think I've got the perfect partner for you.

　　B：嗯……我想我手头刚好有一个和你是绝配。

　　A:Oh yeah? Who?

　　A：噢，真的吗？谁？

　　B:A satellite television! Complete with news coverage³ sports,entertainment... and of course,a remote control!

　　B：卫星电视！它包含新闻报道、体育、娱乐等节目……当然，还配有遥控器！

　　A:Ha-ha... Whatever. I'm find someone eventually. So what about you? What kind of girl qualifies as marriage material?

　　A：哈哈……随你怎么说。我迟早会找到那样的人的。那你呢？你想和什么样的女生结婚？

　　B:Well, for starters, someone who obeys my every wish and command. One of the problems with Melissa is that she was always arguing with me about everything. Also, someone who I can bring with me wherever I go... And who won't just shut down if I talk to other pretty girls.

　　B：呃，首先，她必须完全服从我的意愿和命令。梅丽莎的一个问题就在于她什么事都要跟我争辩。而且.这个人还要让我随时能够带出门……还有，我和其他漂亮美眉聊天的时候，她不能闹别扭。

　　A:Hmm...I've got it!

　　B:Really?

　　A:The perfect match for you, my friend, is an innocent, trusting and obedient laptop computer!

　　A：我的朋友，你的真命天女就是一部天真的、值得信赖的并且服从命令的笔记本电脑！
