  187. Meeting in church教堂相会 relevance1-remote
A young woman was kneeling alone in a remote part of the sanctuary2 of a church when a young man knelt down beside her. The young man spoke3 to her, “I think it is remarkable4 that you would come here on a weekday as most young people are not religious these days.” The young woman praying was reluctant to speak, yet she answered, “I have found that religion has provided a remedy for many of the problems in life. I have developed a reliance on prayer as it serves to relinquish5 many worries and distresses6. Through prayer, my sins can be remitted8. Would you consider a person like me an old relic9 or a remnant from the past?” The man remarked, “On the contrary, I am relieved to find such a woman as you. I myself am reliant on religion. By the way, I find you quite beautiful.” The woman remonstrated11, “Need I remind you that we are in a church? Please keep your remarks to a relevant topic.” The man heeded12 her comment as a reminder13 and said, “Okay, I will keep my comments to a topic of relevance. I am a reliable man. I will do as I say.” “I will be the judge of your reliability14,” said the woman. “Let’s spend the remaining time in prayer.” The man said, “If we were old friends, we could spend time in reminiscence of the past.” “We’re not old friends. Pray!” retorted the woman. With the exception of getting up a few times to relieve themselves, they spent the remainder of the time in prayer.
