I'm Mariko Oi and for this BBC¹ World Service Assignment² programme, I'm in Japan. This hot spring hotel in the west of the country is the oldest in the world. It was founded in 718 when Europe was still in the Dark Ages. The owner is called Zengoro Hoshi. The previous owner, his father, was also Zengoro Hoshi. The owner before that, his grandfather was, you've guessed it, Zengoro Hoshi.
