A US airstrike in Baghdad killed Iran's top general. The US said the general was planning attacks against American diplomats1 and service members.

Iran's supreme2 leader vowed3 harsh retaliation4 for the killing5. Soldiers from the army's 82nd airborne division arrived in Kuwait. President Trump6 has ordered hundreds of troops to the region amid escalating7 tensions.

Tens of thousands of people are being told to leave parts of Australia due to wildfires. Navy ships are picking up some people from beaches, firefighters are escorting convoys8 of evacuees9 down roads.

The Utah Department of Transportation triggered an avalanche10 east of Salt Lake City. They did this to prevent larger and more dangerous snow slides in the area.
